Key learnings

  • Foundry created Toolbox, an interactive electronic data collection system to support both evaluation and clinical practice at Integrated Youth Service sites in British Columbia.
  • Young people find it easier to share information about their health and life experiences via a tablet, than having to share it directly with a service provider during an initial visit. This platform reduces the need for youth to retell their story, allowing them to tell their story at their own pace, in privacy.
  • The Platform allows all sites to measure the impact of services in the same way, improves Foundry’s accountability, and enhances integration and information sharing by having all service providers on the same platform.

Identified Gaps in Research, Practice, and/or Policy

Some remaining challenges include the length of health surveys for youth to fill out, the amount of attention needed for system maintenance, as well as the need to regularly revisit privacy, security, and consent as the system evolves.
