Key learnings

  • The Youth Wellness Centre is located in Hamilton, Ontario, and is a place where young people aged 17 to 25 can access various mental health or substance use supports including peer support.
  • At the Youth Wellness Centre, a “Youth Mentor” is someone who lives with mental health and/or substance use difficulties, who also works in the mental health system.
  • The principles Youth Mentors follow include: mutual/equal relationships, sharing lived experience, hope and recovery, self-determination, integrity and trust, and empathy and respect.
