Psychedelics such as psilocybin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and Ketamine have long been excluded from mental therapeutic treatments due to stigmatization and lack of understanding. In recent years however, researchers and scientists have begun to unearth new discoveries and research in relation to the effectiveness of these substances in the treatment of depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges. Participants in this webinar will: -Hear an intro to research on the use of psychedelics in treatment of mental illness -Listen to the lived expertise of a youth who has used ketamine to treat depression -Learn about systemic barriers and enablers for the use of these substances

The current overdose crisis and the new reality of cannabis legalization are underpinning a drive to re-examine the range of practices around substance use and their implications for YMHSU services. Given the acute extent of the overdose crisis, some stakeholders, including people with lived and living experience, have highlighted the critical need to increase community capacity to provide compassionate, non-judgmental harm reduction services. Through a webinar led by youth experts at Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy (CSSDP), attendees will be able to learn practical strategies for integrating harm reduction approaches into their services, as well as learning about the broader context of advocacy to reduce harms by removing criminal penalties surrounding drug use in Canada.

Research in e-mental health is growing rapidly (Lal & Adair, 2014; Mental Health Commission of Canada, 2014, 2017), likely faster than its uptake in clinical settings. In light of this, there is a need for specific knowledge synthesis activities that can provide clear recommendations on how a specific technology can be effectively adopted and integrated into existing youth mental health services. Gaming my way to recovery is a Frayme sponsored research project that aims to answer this need by exploring how video game technology and interventions can be integrated into the current evolution of youth mental health services. This webinar will discuss how to overcome the current research-practice gap in video game-based interventions through knowledge synthesis by understanding where, when, how, and for what video game technologies can best be implemented into integrated youth services for mental health and substance use, and in doing so support their transformation. Learning objectives: Access the existing evidence and gaps on the use of digital game interventions within the context of mental health services for youth. Identify evidence-based digital game interventions that can support the prevention and treatment of different mental health conditions in youth. Identify steps and mechanisms to engage youth in knowledge synthesis projects.  Discover how playing video games, and having fun, can help young people gain new skills, support their mental wellbeing and overcome the stigma of mental illness.
