The current overdose crisis and the new reality of cannabis legalization are underpinning a drive to re-examine the range of practices around substance use and their implications for YMHSU services. Given the acute extent of the overdose crisis, some stakeholders, including people with lived and living experience, have highlighted the critical need to increase community capacity to provide compassionate, non-judgmental harm reduction services. Through a webinar led by youth experts at Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy (CSSDP), attendees will be able to learn practical strategies for integrating harm reduction approaches into their services, as well as learning about the broader context of advocacy to reduce harms by removing criminal penalties surrounding drug use in Canada.

Research in e-mental health is growing rapidly (Lal & Adair, 2014; Mental Health Commission of Canada, 2014, 2017), likely faster than its uptake in clinical settings. In light of this, there is a need for specific knowledge synthesis activities that can provide clear recommendations on how a specific technology can be effectively adopted and integrated into existing youth mental health services. Gaming my way to recovery is a Frayme sponsored research project that aims to answer this need by exploring how video game technology and interventions can be integrated into the current evolution of youth mental health services. This webinar will discuss how to overcome the current research-practice gap in video game-based interventions through knowledge synthesis by understanding where, when, how, and for what video game technologies can best be implemented into integrated youth services for mental health and substance use, and in doing so support their transformation. Learning objectives: Access the existing evidence and gaps on the use of digital game interventions within the context of mental health services for youth. Identify evidence-based digital game interventions that can support the prevention and treatment of different mental health conditions in youth. Identify steps and mechanisms to engage youth in knowledge synthesis projects.  Discover how playing video games, and having fun, can help young people gain new skills, support their mental wellbeing and overcome the stigma of mental illness.

Social network analysis (SNA) is the study of relationships among social units and is useful to better understand how partners collaborate within a network to achieve major objectives. The purpose of this webinar is review how SNA was applied to the Frayme network in order to (1) examine the level and strength of partnerships, (2) identify the strategies being employed to promote the main objectives and (3) apply the findings to current research in youth mental health and system transformation. Learning objectives: Gain an overview of how SNA can be used to evaluate partnerships within an organization and summarize the results from its application to Frayme.

In this third part of an ongoing series on Frayme’s IYS scan, we’ll be highlighting findings regarding clinical and administrative principles and processes required to deliver effective IYS. Over the course of the webinar, we’ll share aggregated information related to types of services and interventions available, principles and processes of care coordination and service integration, types of service providers employed and their training needs, as well as subpopulations served and eligibility criteria for youth accessing IYS. Be sure to stick around after the discussion for a chance to engage with our speakers and ask any questions you may have regarding IYS and/or Frayme’s IYS scan. Learning objectives: Discover services and interventions available at various integrated youth services (IYS), understand how services and interventions are coordinated and delivered at IYS, explore clinical and administrative human resource allocations, training needs, and team interactions and collaboration at IYS, understand age ranges and types of subpopulations served at IYS
